24 in 2014 // Month 07

Let’s start out by acknowledging that I’m going to acknowledge how late in the year it is at the beginning of every month from here on out. Like this is Month 07 of my 24 in 2014 series how why when!?

This month, I’m choosing two books from my recent Thriftbooks haul because I bought them so…I really want to get onto reading them haha.

Zlata’s Diary: A Child’s Life in Wartime Sarajevo by Zlata Filipovic
I read that this book is reminiscent of Anne Frank’s diary, but it is obviously about a different point in history in a different country. I love reading personal accounts of events and I’m looking forward to learning more about the Bosnian war because I don’t know much about it at this point.

Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff
I was in love with Egyptian history when I was growing up and this is a Pulitzer Prize winner. Need I say more?

Don’t forget to add me on GoodReads! What are you reading this month?

PS. Remember to link up with Monday Melodies! A new link up is every Monday :]

  • I'm currently on third book of Fifty shades of Grey. Ahh I want to read this Cleopatra's book SO BAD!

  • hahah…i am the same way! i feel like ever time i sit down to write a post i'm freaking out about how late in the year it is already!

  • Eek! Let me know how that Cleopatra book is. One of the books I have started (but not finished yet) is Freedom Writers, and the students were actually influenced by Zlata and read that book.

  • I have to admit I m kind of nicely surprised since I am from Bosnia and living in Sarajevo and I don't know why but I never really thought that I would see that book on ur wall:-) The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson is the book I really want to read and is also a Pulitzer Prize winner for 2013. xx

  • ok I was inspired by you and decided to read more historical nonfiction so I put a book on hole at the library called The Romanov Sisters, and it's about the so called "lost daughters" of Tsar Nicholas and Tsarina Alexandra before the Russian Revolution and WWI and I'm SO EXCITED TO READ IT and it's all bc of you!
